OrbitMeter Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 13, 2026
OrbitMeter uses the user's existing Starlink session and stores a minimized local snapshot. Persisted Starlink service-line identifiers are masked, background refresh is off by default, and account credentials are not relayed through an OrbitMeter backend.
Starlink account access
After the user grants optional starlink.com access, OrbitMeter makes first-party Starlink requests using the browser's existing signed-in session. It does not ask the user to enter or store a Starlink password in OrbitMeter.
During a refresh, provider responses may contain account identifiers, account name or email, service-line identifiers, plan and subscription metadata, usage history, due-date information, and a recent payment summary. OrbitMeter transforms this data into the smaller product snapshot needed for the popup rather than persisting the raw provider responses.
Data stored locally
OrbitMeter stores the local snapshot and preferences required to display saved usage and schedule optional refreshes. Starlink service-line identifiers are masked before cached snapshots are persisted, and older raw cached identifier keys are removed during migration.
- Current usage and billing-cycle dates.
- Daily usage and previous-cycle history when available.
- Service-line display information, plan, and subscription state needed for the UI.
- Currency, due dates, and latest payment amount/status/date when available.
- Background refresh preference and refresh status.
Data deliberately excluded from the saved snapshot
OrbitMeter's shared Starlink model is designed not to add card details, sensitive payment identifiers, device identifiers, or exact service-address data to the persisted usage snapshot. Account credentials are not relayed through a QuotaLK or OrbitMeter-controlled backend.
Background refresh
Automatic refresh is Off by default. If the user chooses 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours, chrome.alarms schedules background checks. Authentication or permission failures pause automatic requests until the user reconnects and refreshes, and ordinary failures use retry backoff.
Third-party service
Starlink is a third-party service with its own privacy policy and account terms. OrbitMeter is an independent, unofficial companion and is not an official Starlink application.
Data deletion
Removing OrbitMeter or clearing its extension storage removes locally cached snapshots and preferences. Revoking the optional starlink.com host permission prevents further Starlink requests until access is granted again.
Permissions used
The following permission descriptions reflect the current extension manifest and product behavior.
storageStores minimized Starlink usage snapshots, local preferences, refresh status, and selected service-line state on the user's device.
alarmsRuns the optional user-selected background refresh interval and restores it after browser or service-worker restarts.
starlink.com host accessoptionalRequested only to retrieve supported Starlink usage and account information from first-party Starlink endpoints using the user's existing signed-in browser session.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's data practices materially change, this policy will be updated before or alongside the release that introduces those changes.
